My Well Being Journal

“Oh! The Places You Will Go!”

Welcome to my blog! I created this blog for the purpose of talking about and tracking my well being journey over the health year. I would like to share my thoughts with everyone throughout my day/week! I want to know how I have changed, and what new things I learn over the year that make me better as a person overall. I am tracking my active well being process, and how I am becoming more self aware, and making choices that lead me to a healthier lifestyle.

June 2019 – Past

So excited to learn new things about consent and healthy relationships soon! I really don’t know much about stuff like consent, and I am looking forward to learning about what it really means!

June 14th 2019 – Avery Jensen (Healthy Relationships – Consent – Past)

Hopefully in our healthy relationships unit we will learn about the different types of abuse, and how to identify them, as it’s always good to be safe!

June 16 2019 – Avery Jensen (Healthy Relationships – Types of Abuse – Past)

I have just recently started researching about self awareness, and I have found something interesting called the Ideal Script! I believe we will be learning about it in health very soon! You should read about it, it’s very helpful!

June 20 2019 – Avery (Ideal Script and Planner – Past)

I have been trying to become someone who is more self aware, but I don’t know where to start! I don’t know how I would deal with certain situations, and I really need to be better at thinking about decisions before I make them.

June 21 2019 – Avery Jensen (Ideal Planner – Self Awareness – Past)

Earlier I was faced with a situation where I didn’t know what to do. I was being asked by a friend to do something I didn’t really want to do, but I ended up giving in, for fear of losing the friendship. Hopefully I will learn about how to be assertive and good strategies, because it is a very important life skill that I do not yet have.

I was just told that we will be doing self defence in health class this year! I’m so excited, because now I get to learn about how to keep myself safe, and what to do in unsafe situations, as right now I am really uneducated.

Soon, I will be able to learn about CPR! I will feel much more equipped to help people out if they are in need, and I will probably feel much safer myself. Right now, I honestly have no idea as to what I would do if I was faced with a situation where I had to perform CPR!

September 2019 – Present and Past

Tomorrow we are going to be starting our unit on healthy relationships! I am so excited!

September 11 2019 – Avery Jensen (Healthy Relationships – Present)

Today at school, we were learning about how important it is to have consent for anything that could have a long lasting effect on somebody’s life! Anything from being sexually active with someone, to asking them to hang out. I feel very prepared now because of what I have learned, and can also help people out if they need it. I know that you need to be enthusiastic for it to be considered proper consent, and you really have to make sure that you are fully ready to do whatever it is that you are giving consent to.

September 12 2019 – Avery Jensen (Healthy Relationships – Consent – Present)

Looking back, in the past, it had never really occurred to me that people wouldn’t ask for permission, and bad things can happen when people aren’t ready for what they think they are ready for. I had never thought about what consent really meant to me, and what it meant overall. I had not thought about the fact that people’s versions of consent might be different, and that you always have to make sure that you are on the same page with your partner, or whoever it applies to.

September 12 2019 – Avery Jensen (Healthy Relationships – Consent – Past/Present)

Today I learned about the different types of abuse. This has equipped me for the future because now I am able to identify these kinds of things beforehand, and before anything gets bad. Now, I also know the signs of an unhealthy relationship (maybe one involving a type of abuse), which can be useful, and help me and people I know.

September 14 2019 – Avery Jensen (Healthy Relationships – Types of Abuse – Present)

Before these health classes, I had never learned about reading the signs, and what certain signs could mean about a relationship. I had never really thought about the different types of abuse, for example financial and social, and I had only ever really thought about the physical.

September 14 2019 – Avery Jensen (Healthy Relationships – Types of Abuse – Past/Present)

I was told that next monday we will be starting a unit on the ideal script! I feel like I will do well in this unit, as I have heard of this “IDEAL Script” before!

September 15 2019 – Avery Jensen (Ideal Script)

Yesterday I learned about self awareness, and I now feel more equipped to deal with more life situations. I now understand how important it is to think about your decisions before you make them, and think about how they could affect not only you, but others around you. I know that you have to remember your values, and not let anyone peer pressure you into doing something that you are not comfortable with.

A picture of my IDEAL Script!

This is a picture of my ideal script! My friend and I had a lot of fun planning out ideas and learning all about the ideal script and self awareness!

September 20 2019 – Avery Jensen (Ideal Script)

Before learning about self awareness, I really felt that if I were to be faced with a difficult situation and decision, I would not be equipped to deal with it, and I would not know how to handle it so that the outcome benefited me, and did not have a negative affect on me overall. However, after this unit, I no longer feel like this!

September 21 2019 – Avery Jensen (Ideal Script – Self Awareness – Past/Present)

I hadn’t ever really felt the need to be properly assertive when stating my opinions, and what I felt comfortable with. Nothing big that would require a lot of assertiveness has ever come my way. I had never really thought about how much assertiveness can help you in situations, and how much you really need to be assertive to keep yourself, and possibly even others safe. However, now I know that it is important to always be thinking critically when making decisions. You always need to think about the people that your decision will be affecting, and how it is affecting them. If you are being pushed into a situation that you are uncomfortable in, you have to make sure that you are assertive, or you won’t get your point across, and you might end up being stuck in that situation. You always have to be thinking critically and making sure that you are making the best decision possible.

Sorry for the long post today!

September 23 2019 – Avery Jensen (Ideal Script – Assertiveness – Past/Present)

I was just told… about something that I am super excited about! I was told that next week we will be doing… drumroll please! SELF DEFENCE!! How exciting does that sound?!

Marks from Ideal Script!

Just got my marks back from the Ideal Script! Woot woot! Didn’t do so bad after all!

October 2 2019 – Avery Jensen (Ideal Script)

Today we did self defence!! I learned so much in the small amount of time that we had! The things that stuck with me the most were the things about prevention. If you prevent these situations from happening, then you shouldn’t ever really have to be using any of the strategies in a real time situation. This course has taught me the situations to stay out of, and how to prevent certain things from happening. It has taught me how to be safe, and also how to remove myself from dangerous situations. Thank you so much to the self defence teachers!

A picture of our class learning about self defence!

Here is a picture of us when we were learning about self defence! Before self defence, I had never thought about the little things, like not wearing ear buds when you are out on a walk, or always walking with someone instead of alone. Things like “What would I do if someone was following me” or “What would I do if someone tried to grab me” never really came across my mind. I had never thought about any prevention methods as it was always “Oh that would never happen, I live in a safe community”, but that kind of thing happens all the time, even with people who think they’re 100% safe. However, thanks to my teachers, I now feel a lot more prepared!

October 7 2019 – Avery Jensen (Safety – Self Defence – Past/Present)

Sorry for lack of posts! I have been trying very hard to keep up with all of my projects in school! My time management skills are really being tested, and thanks to health class, I feel fully prepared. Tomorrow we are going to be doing CPR training!  I have never really done something or been anywhere that I would be the only person able to help if someone were to require CPR. I don’t babysit or anything like that, so I always just thought “Oh I will never have to do that” and “There’s always other people around.” I had never thought that it would take so much work to save someone’s life, and instead of just calling 911, actually doing something about it. I am super excited to learn how to properly perform CPR!

October 19 2019 – Avery Jensen (Safety – CPR – Past/Present)

We did CPR yesterday!! CPR training has taught me that it is important to look for signs, in this case, if someone is choking, or cannot breathe. It has taught me to be determined, because if I am giving CPR, you never know when backup will be coming in, and you might have to keep doing it for ages before someone can help you. This has taught me to be determined because if I am not, and I give up, then that is someone’s life on the line, and if I give up, that might be the one person who I could have saved, but I gave up, essentially on their life.

December 2019 – Talking about the future – Overall

After learning lots about consent, I now feel prepared, and if I am ever faced with a situation that requires me to give consent, I will know how to make sure that my consent is proper. I feel prepared because I now know the proper meaning of consent, and how it is very important in many situations. In the future, I know that I will feel equipped enough to deal with situations that involve consent.

December 1 2019 – Avery Jensen (Healthy Relationships – Consent – Future)

After learning a lot about healthy relationships, I feel that I am equipped with many more helpful skills.  I feel that I would be able to understand and help people who might be in an unhealthy relationship, and also how to help myself. I feel I can now understand the differences between the types of abuse, and the different ways that they can affect people’s life, and the different ways that they are initiated. This will be very useful in my future, and I can use it to help myself and possibly even others.

December 2 2019 – Avery Jensen (Healthy Relationships – Types of Abuse – Future)

I now feel that I am able to make decisions based on many different aspects, instead of just being focused on one. I feel that I know how important it is to really think about the decision and what the outcome could mean before making the decision final. I am now more aware of how my decisions can affect me, and my peers, in the long or short run. Self awareness really plays a big part in the Ideal Script, and in life overall.

December 4 2019 – Avery Jensen (Ideal Script – Self Awareness – Future)

After learning about being assertive, I feel that I know now one, how to be assertive, and two, why it is important to be assertive. I can now understand that being assertive can really help me get out of situations in which I am uncomfortable, and that critical thinking and assertiveness play big parts in making any decision. I feel that the ability to be assertive is a skill that I will use very much, and is a skill that everyone should have.

December 6 2019 – Avery Jensen (Ideal Script – Assertiveness – Future)

After learning about self defence, I now feel very prepared. Sure, the thought of anything bad happening is terrifying, but at least I would have some idea what to do instead of just going into it blindly, like I would have been doing before the course. I now feel prepared to defend myself in many situations, and maybe even others, in case of danger. I know now situations to avoid, and things I shouldn’t do.

December 10 2019 – Avery Jensen (Safety – Self Defence – Future)

After doing CPR training, I now feel a little more confident, that if anything were to happen, then I could be a little more able to help out. Before I would not have been as confident, and I would have made someone else do it, for the fear that I would mess it up. There is still some of that fear, but now I think that I would be able to help, if I remember all the tips, and steps to CPR. For example, I never would have guessed that singing “Staying Alive” in my head while doing it could help me have better timing.

December 13 2019 – Avery Jensen (Safety – CPR – Future)

Overall

Overall, throughout this year, I have learned much more about topics that make me more comfortable with myself. I have learned that there are different opinions, to each topic, and this has helped me become a more aware and knowledgeable person. I have learned that there are different sides of each situation, and that understanding the sides can help you become more self aware. This can help me throughout my life, as I can become more kind and understanding, which are big values for me. Hopefully, I am going to learn more about these topics, and I can improve myself as a person overall. This health year has been very helpful, and I think a lot of the concepts that I have learned throughout this year, will stick with me for a long time.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
